Gid Newell

Hi, I’m Gid Newell. I'm a professional voice over artist and specialize in audiobooks.

A smooth, articulate baritone laced with dry wit and sharp intelligence — like your favorite professor moonlighting as a stand-up comic.

About Gid

I began my public speaking career at age 12 doing weekly bible readings, as a “lector” at church. Standing in front of a few hundred people with all eyes on you teaches you how to control your breathing, your heart rate, and your fear. I learned to slow down, scan ahead in my text, and always prepare in advance with the right amount of emphasis and proper pausing.

I’m also an elementary school teacher, where I’m famous for my daily (and lively) storybook read-alouds. If you’re in Kindergarten (only), you may call me by nickname- Mr. Noodle. In the classroom, I found I have a talent for holding attention by using dynamics in my voice; even the texts that seem the driest can be brought to life when you read conversationally. And when it’s fiction- a little vocal accenting for characters goes a long way. Audiences get distracted with over-the-top and unrealistic caricatures, and I don’t want to cheapen the hard work of my authors.

A fiction narrator’s job is to differentiate the characters enough that audiences forget that they are even listening to another person. They are instead swept up in your words, storylines, and drama- experiencing the same situations and emotions as your characters.

When I’m not in the sound booth, I enjoy running in half-marathons and 5k road races. I also perform in local community theater doing one-act plays and scenes from Shakespeare.

Being able to read smoothly and effectively has always come naturally for me. I can provide a wide array of different vocal styles ranging from deep and serious narration, all the way to the goofy cartoon character. I look forward to working with you!
